On March 22, 2025, staff from Portland Fire, Portland Parks, and two dozen volunteers gathered to remove large accumulations of flammable debris from Governors Park – nearly 5 dump trucks worth in 3 hours!
Cleanups like this help reduce the amount of woody debris on the forest floor, reduce the number of weedy and invasive trees and shrubs, and help prevent fires from starting – or climbing into the forest canopy. Enough brush is left to ensure a healthy forest floor, as well as habitat for all manner of creatures.
