Eligibility Reminder:

  • Limit two trees per address.
  • Trees must be planted within City of Portland limits.
  • Trees are for planting on private property, not as street trees.
  • Trees cannot be used for planting permit requirements.

Why Trees:
Trees provide essential services like cleaning the air we breathe, keeping us cool during the hot summer months, blocking noise, and improving our mental and physical health. Along with all that, they bring us year-round beauty and a sense of place.

Yard Tree Pledge

A tree comes with responsibility and rewards! As part of this effort, participants pledge to:

Allow Urban Forestry to monitor the tree’s health and survival once a year. This helps us to see how trees are faring and improve our program.

• Review the planting and care instructions that come with my tree before planting.

• Water the tree 15 gallons of water per week, May-Oct, for at least the first three years.

• Plant the tree at the address provided that is inside Portland city limits.

• Plant the tree on my property, not as a street tree.

• Plant the tree in the ground, not in a container.

•Contact Urban Forestry or a tree care professional with questions about my tree.

• Return the tree to Urban Forestry if I cannot plant it.

• Ask permission from the property owner to plant the tree, if I am a renter.
