ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Although the actual race route does not enter Southwest Hills, it will impact nearby streets.
See map at https://www.portlandmarathon.com/traffic/southwesthills
Runners begin the race Downtown and do loops around Downtown, Old Town, Northwest District, Lloyd District, and Pearl District before using Naito and SW Macadam Ave to travel south through South Portland and cross the Sellwood Bridge into Sellwood-Moreland. Runners eventually make their way north and cross the Burnside Bridge to finish the race in Downtown.
As a rule of thumb it will not be possible to drive on, or drive across, the streets used for the race until the last runner has passed the location and the traffic control devices have been removed. Vehicles will be turned away one block prior to reaching the race route.
SPECIAL TRAFFIC CONSIDERATIONS
It will not be possible to travel on or across W Burnside St anywhere east of NW 23rd Ave between the hours of 7:10 and 8:15 a.m. Southwest Hills residents who need to travel from their neighborhood north into the Northwest District, Pearl District, or Old Town Chinatown will need to do so by using the northbound 405 Freeway rather than surface streets.
Those planning to enter Downtown should be advised that significant delays are expected from 7:10 to 8:15 a.m. for the start of the race. Additionally, Naito Pkwy between the Ross Island Bridge and the Steel Bridge will have significant delays and/or closures for the majority of the day.
It will not be possible to drive on or across SW 1st Ave between SW Clay St and SW Arthur St from 7:10 to 9:45 a.m. It will not be possible to access or cross Naito Pkwy from the west anywhere between SW Clay St and the Ross Island Bridge from 7:10 to 10:00 a.m. It will not be possible to access or cross SW Hood Ave from the west anywhere between SW Curry St and SW Macadam Ave between the hours of 7:10 and 10:15 a.m. It will also not be possible to access or cross SW Macadam Ave from the west anywhere between the South Waterfront and the Sellwood Bridge between the hours of 7:10 and 10:45 a.m.
Southwest Hills residents are encouraged to remain south of the 405 Freeway and use the Marquam or Ross Island Bridges (as opposed to other bridges such as the Hawthorne or Sellwood) on their way to/from the east side from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Naito Pkwy will be completely inaccessible to all traffic between SW Barbur Blvd and NW Davis St from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. After 10:00 a.m. Naito Pkwy will be accessible between SW Barbur Blvd and SW Jefferson St, but it will not be accessible from SW Jefferson St to NW Davis St until 5:00 p.m.
